Peer-to-peer platform for home assistance
“Home support for and by neighbours” is the slogan of Helpper, the company that introduced collaborative economy into the Belgian care sector in 2017. Through a digital matchmaking platform, Helpper connects vulnerable people in need of home support with helpful neighbourhood residents.
Either via the website or the app, the platform can be used by elderly and people with disabilities or a chronic disease looking for a helping hand. It’s designed for tasks that usually fall outside of the scope of professional care services – like grocery shopping, a ride to the doctor, help with administration or just spending some quality time – and can easily be carried out by people from the neighbourhood. In return, the caring neighbours receive a modest financial compensation.
Acknowledging that a little aid from local residents can greatly improve quality of life for many, Helpper works towards the 3rd sustainable development goal: “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”
